What Does the Dot on the Forehead Mean?

The dot on a Hindu's forehead symbolizes the third eye of spiritual sight. The custom is for unmarried women to wear black marks, and married women to wear red. However, today women often wear dots that match the color of their saris (or outfit).

I have been a married Indian woman for years now and I still continue to wear the red dot. But occasionaly I'll live on the edge and be crazy so I'll wear lime green. At other times I wear yellow because it looks great on my dark almost chocolate colored skin. My husband prefers that I wear pink because after all it is his favorite color. Any questions, holler at your lady.
